By 1950s, books had almost been replaced by magazines. By 1960s, books had almost been replaced by themselves. Today, almost everybody possesses a computer and the internet is being used for erasing time. The role of information technology in media has been prominent in providing ways for information to become distributed in a uniform way.
Many new technologies have contributed to the development of media technology. Electronic technology was introduced as early as the 1940s, but it was only in the 1950s that it became feasible to use radio waves to send and receive information. The first electronic computer was invented as far back as Cadillac IMS 512, developed by engineer John Von Neumann. In the 1960s, computers became cheaper, more reliable, more memory extended and more available to the public. This lead to the development of what we now call “home computing”.
Some people may refer to our computers as being “virtual” as it plays the role of a remote monitor to display information on the monitor. A virtual computer appears as another computer. This means that a remote display is used when the user is away from the computer. This remote display is used for applications like word processing.
Other information technologies have developed which helps in making our lives easier. The availability of information has shown to be one of the best things about the development of computers. Computers were able to deliver information to different locations at the same time. Computers are still being improved and will probably continue to be better than what they are now for years to come.
Some of the more powerful components used in modern computers are: The CPU (central processing unit), RAM (random access memory), hard disk drive, and processor. The CPU processes data and instructions. RAM is where data and other information are stored temporarily when the computer isn’t in use. Processing and transferring of data between the computer and other devices is done by the CPU. The hard disk drive is where data and files are stored when the computer isn’t in use. The processor is used to take all of the data and instructions and put it in a form that the human is capable of understanding.
With the increasing popularity of computers, the immediate future lies in more advanced components. The IMB (Internet Management Panel) is probably the best indication of how competent computers have become. It is a standard for IT management and a standard for speaking to average or low-level users. So for every type of computer user, there is a corresponding IMB.
Another indication of the backward step of the computer industry is the rapid increase in the prices of computer components. For example, the cost of a typical desk top computer has increased from $000 in the early 80’s to over $1,000 by 2006. On the other hand, the cost of the peripherals that connect the computer to peripherals like the mouse, keyboard, printer and scanner have also experienced substantial price reductions.
Consumer electronics prices have also experienced deflation. This is the so called “green” effect. It is not entirely Surm humour, but some Urban legends have managed to make consumer prices seem exceptionally low when they aren’t really so. In some instances, consumer prices have actually gone up.
This means that purchasing a computer may not be as568ttle expensive as it used to be. Many people walk into buy computers knowing that they will be paying a significant amount for the item. This is an error in data processing. When you walk in to buy a computer the first thing you are going to do is look at the cost of the computer. The low-end computer will be sold bundled with an operator to make the computer cheap. Don’t be fooled by the low cost of the computer. Simply look at the CPU speed and the amount of RAM memory you get. If the computer is running a bit slow you can be certain that the amount of RAM memory is insufficient.
You should be wary of services that you download from the internet. Software sellers use the bundling up of software as a ploy to get you to purchase more software. For example, you may have heard of a new release for anti-virus. However, you may not know that the new version is actually sold separately. Look at it like this. While you may be getting the anti-virus for free, you are still paying $10.00. This is no different than a used car. You know that you are probably going to have to replace the filter, and you know that you will soon die without it. You buy a used car from a dealer and you expect that after a few weeks of use, the car will have a fluid change and then break down.
